more shibori part 2

I wasn't quite ready with showing off all I made so here it continuous.

viltalakim, verven, textiel dyeing, dyebath

In the dye, but due to the wood I used to wrap it around ,it kept floating... turning every now and then or ....???

viltalakim, verven, textiel, shibori, dyeing

Er iets zwaars op zetten???? Helpt ook ;-)

Adding something more heavy on it helps too!! ;-)

viltalakim, shibori

After the dyebath, rinsing out excessive dye.... what would have become of it??? First unwrap of this piece

viltalakim,shibori

tweede afwikkeling / second unwrapping

I was alone unfortunately, no one to take a picture of me while opening and me looking at the result.....  Will be shown in part 4. Per colour I wanted to make 2 pieces af fabric, This was the second in green:

tie-dye, verven

As you can clearly see on the picture I sewn all edges with polyester thread, which doesn't absorb color .. :(  next time I rather use cotton thread evnenthough I am not seeing this as a mistake..

Next part the third colour.  Can you Gguess which color that will be?

viltalakim, verven

Ever since the new year started i felt like dyeing. But this time not only for the technique or dying proces, but this time with a goal and purpose for the fabric. So I went to the weekly market on Friday in Maastricht and bought 4 meters of cheesecloths (plain openweaved  cotton). This fabric I split into 6 same seized pieces, so I ended up with 6 pieces of 2.00m  long and 0,50 m wide .

viltalakim, vilt, tie-dye

Zie foto's .

After washing the fabric first and drying it, I hemphed it by "zigzag"(?) the edges with my old sewingmachine. Day later: I was finally done with preparations. Time for the shibori and tying. The pieces I folded on different ways so the effect would also be different. I sow by hand with a runner stitch and added glassballs, marbles, stones into the fabric too, tying it securely off. See pictures

viltalakim, katoen verven

Next step was the dyeing part. Time for gloves and an apron for protection. I solved the dye as was written on the instruction and added 2 pieces of fabric to it at a time. This had to simmer for about 20 minutes, take it out and rinse it with water. Patience is a good thing;-)

The result after dyeing it always a surprise.... how will it be???

viltalakim, verven, textiel

een stuk met shibori = rijgsteek naaien / one piece with shibori = running stitch

viltalakim, katoen

een stuk met afbinden met en zonder  stenen / a piece which I tied with and without stones

As I had dye left I searched for the same kind of fabric and found this small part. Tied it and added it into the 3 different dyebaths.

viltalakim, dyeing, verven, textiel

My daughter was about to go to sleep but was very curious too.. "May I open it up Mummy? "

The result is ok, not as bright coloured as the other fabrics. Maybee I should of left it longer in the dye or reheated the dyes again, or maybee the dye was just used too often... but nevertheless it is a nice piece, Not sure yet what to make/ do with it, but i think my duaghter already knows ;-)

viltalakim, tie-dye

Next post will be for the other dyebaths  results , stay tuned ;-)

the two things

…. of yesterdays post had to be dry before I could open them and this came out:

viltalakim, scarf, sjaal, vilt, felt, Filz, wool, wol

viltalakim, scarf, sjaal, filz, vilt, Felt, Wool , wol,

viltalakim, scarf, sjaal, filz, vilt, Felt, Wool , wol, shibori

front side “balls” are up

viltalakim, scarf, sjaal, filz, vilt, Felt, Wool , wol, shibori

back side

viltalakim, scarf, sjaal, filz, vilt, Felt, Wool , wol,

As you can see on yesterday’s post the lace was first mint green something, but it also absorbed the purple dye, except for the bottom laces. But I think it matches the white where the wrapping was…

I still had one other scarf, which needed to be dyed too  I wanted to show here too, but I somehow deleted all my pictures of last years….  Help!!  I just hope I can find them back … and show you my other new felts tomorrow

Enjoy this day!

Can you imagine how impatient I was to see the result? So I opened 3 pieces with the less stitches first just before heading to bed :) They were what I expected, jippie!! So I left the other pieces in the dye bath till the next morning.  So excited , as the other pieces were with more new sewings and foldings.

Before deying:

viltalakim, shibori, dyeing, cotton

preparing the cotton.....

viltalakim, shibori, dye, blue, cotton
9 sampler pieces

I know many of you said I’d use purple and that is also one of my favourite color at the moment, but as I got some “live” online help over skype last evening from Vasudevan of the Tasara creative weaving centre, I completely forgot to mix this blue with red… before adding the cottons …… So blue they wll be :)

I have pictured each piece separately and it is on my flickr photostream  so you can see each piece bigger .
